Artificial Intelligence BC Strategic Plan – Get Ready (Plan & Recruit), SET (Social, Economic & Technological focus), Go (Put the plan into Action)
We will:
- Strengthen the social and technological capacities and substrates necessary to support a vibrant leadership role for Canadian artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML)
- Promote and safeguard the economic strength of B.C., Canada and its democratic allies
- Characterize and understand solutions for the global societal impacts of artificial intelligence
- Network with domestic and international centres of AI excellence to advance the AIBC vision
Strengthen the social and technological capacities and substrates necessary to support a vibrant leadership role for Canadian artificial intelligence and machine learning
- Create funded Research Fellowships to assist BC Universities recruit and retain research faculty
- Facilitate state of the art computing capabilities – including next generation quantum computing
- Create and coordinate access to data (example labeled data sets) necessary for various AI approaches
- Build and coordinate software and systems to support AI research and development
- Facilitate access to high quality personnel training and mentoring programs
- Synthesize research focused on sensing, cognition and action
Promote and safeguard the economic strength of B.C., Canada and its democratic allies
- Work together with the other three major AI centres of Excellence in Canada
- Bring together BC industry, university and government AI and ML communities
- Encourage global information technology companies to establish R &D facilities in B.C.
- Work with sunrise & traditional vertical sectors of the BC economy - one stop shop
- Deliver online and brief in-persons courses on AI practice, theory and applications.
Characterize and understand solutions for the global societal impacts of artificial intelligence
- Research beneficial uses of AI
- Research AI Safety
- Research and promote AI Ethics
- Research AI employment impacts and solutions
- Research AI geopolitical impacts and solutions
Network with domestic and international centres of AI excellence to advance the AIBC vision
- Collaborate with the other major AI centres in Canada to share ideas, resources and people
- Encourage the formation of research teams across the province, across the country and internationally that will advance the AIBC Vision
- Leverage access to the resources of existing research and development institutions in Canada
- Work collaboratively with policy developers with respect to labour mobility and skill acquisition
- Work with public policy researchers and governments to develop transitional social programs and institutions
